Florida GOP pushes mail-in voting ahead of 2024 election

The Republican Party of Florida wants its supporters to make sure they’ll receive a mail-in ballot ahead of the coming election.

Chairman Evan Power is spearheading a new state GOP website titled “Republican Renewal,” which allows users to pick their county of residence, directing them to a page where they can request a ballot.

Power called on voters to not “wait” until the last minute.

Floridians eligible to vote have until Thursday, Oct. 24 at 5 p.m. to request a mail-in ballot.

Florida is a state where absentee voting is very prevalent and doesn’t heavily disfavor Republicans. In 2022, a historic red wave year, over 2.7 million voted by mail, and the GOP trailed mail-ins to Democrats by only around 200,000.

In other parts of the country, mail-ins can lean two-to-one Democratic.

In 2020, 4.8 million Floridians voted by mail, when former President Donald Trump won the state by larger than his 2016 margin. In that year, Democrats led the mail-ins by around 15%, or over 500,000.
