Ellen Hoffman and her husband Dick are long-time members of the SCREC. Ellen is both a former Chairman and former State Committeewoman. Get to know Ellen in her own words:

What is your home state?
Michigan

How long have you been a member of the Sumter REC?
I joined the SCREC in 2003

What is your professional background?
I attended the University of Michigan as an undergrad, received my Masters Degree at Oakland University, and subsequently taught elementary school

Tell us about your family.
I have a blended family of 6 daughters, 12 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren

What hobbies do you have?
I enjoy writing poetry.

What is the most recent book you’ve read?
Recently I have been reading, “The Dying Citizen” by Victor Davis Hanson

What is the first concert you ever attended?
When I was 10 years old and living in Oklahoma, I attended a Tulsa Philharmonic Orchestra concert with my mom

What would you consider to be your most proud accomplishment?
Other than the pride I take in my three daughters, I am most proud of being the 2003 founding president of The Villages Buffalo Booster Club, supporting athletes at The Villages High School, in which I am still active today

What cause are you most passionate about?
I’d have to say that I have never lost the passion and love I have for The Villages Buffalo Booster Club and for all of the athletes I have met and supported since 2003

What is the best place you’ve ever traveled to?
The  most fun and interesting place to which I have traveled would have to be Thailand, especially up in the mountains of Chiang Mai where we traveled by motorcycle

One fact someone would be surprised to learn about you?
For two years I taught third grade at the Lahore American School in Lahore, Pakistan
