April Meeting Update
The next meeting of The Republican Club of The Villages of Marion County is scheduled for Thursday, April 21st. As many of you are aware, from articles in Daily Sun and attending meetings, the individual Republican Clubs of The Villages will most likely be merging to provide better programing and to more effectively serve the community. For now, only The Villages clubs of Sumter County have actually merged.
For the April meeting, we have decided to join the new Republican Club of The Villages for their meeting on Thursday April 28th at the Savannah Center. The meeting will start at 7:00 PM with the meet and greet scheduled to begin at 6:30 PM. Many of the state and local candidates will be present during the meet and greet to introduce themselves. This is a wonderful opportunity to get to know many of them personally.
The speaker on Thursday, April 28th will be Russel Randolph. I understand he is an excellent speaker. He will be speaking on the unsettling lack of knowledge in the population about how our government works. This applies at the national, state and local levels. The title of his talk is “Literacy of Civics”. Ignorance may be bliss in somethings, but not in the running of our government. As Thomas Jefferson said, “…if a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.”
I hope you will be able to attend the meeting Thursday evening, April 28th at the Savannah Regional Recreation Center. The meet and greet begins at 6:30 PM with the meeting starting at 7:00 PM. You do NOT have to be a Republican, but you do have to be a Village Resident or have a Village’s Guest ID to attend. This restriction is necessary to allow us to use the Recreation Centers at no charge since we are a Resident Lifestyle Club.
